Review & Swatches : Elf Beauty Encyclopedia Basic Eye Edition

I have to tell you I wasn't impressed with Elf Beauty Encyclopedias at first, I don't know why! Maybe the colors didn't appeal to me or I was simply tired of getting palettes and not using them, because I only liked 2-3 colors! That was all until I was given the chance to try this palette for free, so I was like "what the heck, even if I don't like it I wouldn't have wasted my money!".. Well, I'm so glad I chose to receive it, because I love it and now I'm thinking about getting one of the other beauty encyclopedias too!! Hehehe! ;)

We'll start with the packaging as always! It's simple and nice! It's made of sleek cardboard and it feels nice and soft to the touch! :) In the front cover you get a picture of what's inside, although the swatches of the colors aren't accurate! But at least you know what's inside, which is convinient! When you open it up, you get some instructions on how to use the eyeshadows on the left side, which is great for beginners, and 12 powder eyeshadows, 2 cream eyeshadows, a mini black eyeliner and a double ended mini brush (sponge tip applicator/brush) on the right side! I like the fact that you get a clear plastic sheet between the left and the right side to avoid your palette getting messy, which I think is great, because I hate messy looking cosmetics! This palette is quite small, which is great for travelling, but it's not small enough to carry around in your handbad! One little thing I dislike about this palette is that the plastic sheet is taped to the back cover of the palette and when you remove the tape you got some glue residue, which gathers dust and dirt! If anybody knows how to remove the glue residue without ruining the packaging please let me know! Here are some pics (click on for larger view) :

Yeah I took the pics right after I received it, that's why it looks brand new! lol ! ;) So, on to the actual product now! The eyeshadows are so soft, a few of them are a bit crumbly, but I don't mind! They're not extremely finely milled, but hey.. this is a £6.00 palette, not an Urban Decay palette that costs £35 or something, so don't expect it to be perfect! All eyeshadows have a gorgeous metallic finish, except for the 2 eyeshadows on the "bottom" left side (the purple and the dark brown), which are matte! Don't worry, there's no glitter in these eyeshadows! All shades are very pigmented, so you don't need a lot of product to get the color to show up! The colors in these palettes are gorgeous!! You got your highlighter, your lid colors and your darker colors for gorgeous smokey looks, so a nice variety of colors! The cream eyeshadows didn't impress me much, they felt too creamy for my oily lids! If you have dry eyelids though these will work fine I guess! The pink one is much more pigmented than the white one! I still haven't tried the eyeliner, but it felt nice and smooth on my hand and it's quite pigmented too! Wanna see swatches of this gorgeous palette? ;)

This amazing palette retails for £6.00 (yep, it's not a typo!!!) and it's definitely worth the money, as you get a good amount of product, 37g to be exact, plus the eyeshadows are pretty pigmented, so they will last you a long time, since you don't need a lot each time! ;) You can buy this palette online here ! ;) I'm definitely getting 1-2 more palettes from the Beauty Encyclopedia range, how about you? ;) Don't forget to become a fan of Elf's Fanpage on facebook, we get a lot of promotions there, like free shipping, discounts, gifts with purchase etc! ;)

  3. I have the sparkle eyes edition, the colours are very beautiful! I use the cream shadows as a base when I don't carry an eye shadow base with me. The thing with the glue that remains happened to me too so I didn't remove the tape, just cut it so I can open the palette. Try to remove it with a Q-tip and alcohol or acetone.
