Review : Elf Studio Line High Definition Powder

This is a very popular product, as well as HD products in general ! I think Makeup For Ever was the first brand that came up with HD products and then other brands, like Elf, followed! I've never tried MUFE's High Definition Powder, which is really expensive, so I can't compare it to Elf's High Definition Powder! I've heard though that they're pretty similar!

I'll start with the packaging of the product of course! This powder comes in a square, quite bulky black jar made of matte plastic that holds 8g of product! Although it's quite bulky, I like the way it looks, more expensive that it actually is! Since it's so big it's not very convinient for travelling though, as it takes up a lot of space! Here's what it looks like:

When you open up the jar you get a pretty good quality powder puff, nice and soft! It would be better if it was black though, because now that it's white you can't see how much product you pick up (the powder is white too), so you can end up with lots of powder on your face! I personally don't like powder puffs, I prefer fluffy brushes to apply any kind of powder to my face, so I don't use this one!

If you remove the powder puff, you get a handy sifter! The sifter is covered by a plastic seal, please don't remove it, otherwise you'll end up with white powder everywhere!! Poke some holes with a pin instead until you get enough product out!

Ok, enough with the packaging! LOL! Let's move on to the actual product! Elf High Definition Powder is a very finely milled and airy powder that looks white in the jar, but applies translucent on your face! If you have quite tanned/dark skin be careful with it, because it can look ashy! It's a great product to set your foundation with, as it's airy and it doesn't look cakey! There's no point in posting a swatch of this powder, as it's translucent on the skin, but here's what it looks like in the jar (I took the sifter off)

Here's what Elf says about their product:

The high definition loose powder creates a "soft focus" effect to the skin. Masks fine lines and imperfections for a radiant complexion. The incredibly soft and invisible powder is great for on-screen and everyday wear.
The microfine particles are designed to be used with high-definition camera technology or for everyday wear. Apply powder all over the face for a professional and youthful look of perfection.

Yes it creates a "soft focus" effect to the skin, but I didn't notice any difference in the appearance of my fine lines and imperfections, yet it didn't accentuate them either! As for the high definition camera thing, I haven't tested it out, but I've heard from other girls that it looks good in pictures! So, don't expect miracles from this powder! However if you want a nice, lightweight powder to set your foundation then go for it! :) Elf High Definition Powder is also great if you want to set your under eye concealer, because it doesn't settle into your fine lines, since it contains silica!

Overall this is a nice powder, I definitely don't regret buying it and I'm happy that I have it in my collection! It retails for £6.00 and although you get 8g of product, which doesn't seem like a generous amount, it actually is, since this is a very finely milled powder and you only need a small amount each time, so it will last you a long time! 1. Ya, I tend to agree, this product was just okay, having dry skin, I don't want a powder that is too irritating and this didn't do anything for me, but for setting it's fine. I poked some holes in mine, read everywhere that it gets messy if you take the peeler off!

  2. oh and.... I heart your blog, btw, in case you didn't know

  3. @Justine I'm glad that somebody agrees with me! I like the hd powder, but it doesn't do anything wow for my skin! The mineral booster on the other hand makes my skin look nice and healthy, even my mom noticed it and commented on how good my skin looks! :)

Awwwww thanks for the award!!! :D I'm gonna do it propably later! :)

  4. I haven't tried any e.l.f. until now.I think I like this one though... :)
