Review : Elf Mineral Eyeshadow Primer

I got this eyeshadow primer a while back and since a lot of people are asking about it on elf's facebook fanpage, I thought I'd write a review on it! :)

As always I'll begin with the packaging! This primer comes in a plastic, see-through tube that looks like a lipgloss! The material that it's made of is matte and nice to the touch! It definitely doesn't feel cheap! :) It looks like this:

It has a sponge-tip applicator which is cool, because you don't have to dip your fingers anywhere to get the product out! I would prefer a squeezy tube though, like Too Faced Shadow Insurance, because once you've used quite some product it's kinda hard to get any product on the applicator, because it sticks on the walls of the packaging! :/

Let's see what elf says on their website about this primer:

This gentle and completely sheer Eyeshadow Primer has key vitamins A, C and E to help prevent aging and moisturizes the skin. The formula glides on easily and disappears instantly to create longer-lasting, crease-proof eyeshadow. The Mineral Eyeshadow Primer is designed to be used with your favorite mineral eyeshadow to provide ultimate staying power for beautiful and vibrant color that lasts. 100% mineral based with no parabens, no preservatives and no chemical dyes.

The product itself is quite creamy and it spreads easily! :) When you put it on your hand it has a light beige color, but once you blend it in it doesn't show up at all ! So, if you need an eyeshadow primer that will cover any discolorations you may have on your eyelids this is definitely not for you! Here's what it looks unblended:

So, you apply the primer on your lids with the sponge-tip applicator and then you blend it in with your finger! You could use a brush too if you don't want to use your finger, but I find that the warmth of your finger helps the primer blend in better! :) Make sure to blend it well and don't use a lot of product, because if you do that your eyeshadows will crease like crazy! 2-3 dots on each eyelid (depending on how big your eyelid is) are enough!

My eyelids are super oily and quite hooded (my browbone sometimes covers my eyelids, yeah sad I know lol) and this eyeshadow primer works pretty well, it keeps my eyeshadow from creasing and my eyeliner from smudging for about 7 hours! :)

It doesn't say on the packaging how much primer you get, which is a bummer, but I've seen in videos on youtube that you get half the product you would get with Urban Decay Primer Potion, so it's a fairly good amount, considering it retails for only £3.00 here ! Plus you only need a tiny amount of product each time, so this tube will last you a long time! :)

  1. The packaging on mine broke after a while, the black cap slide off the rest of the products. Seems to be a trend with ELF packaging. I am reluctant to write a review on this before really reviewing it well, it doesn't make my eyeshadows crease, but I use pretty good eyeshadow so I don't know if it really makes a difference all that much. I still reach for my udpp.

  2. awww I'm sorry about your primer Justine! :( it seems like you got a defective one! I've used several different eyeshadows with it, like elf mineral eyeshadows, eyeshadows from the 88 shimmer palette etc. and I had good results with all of them! ;)
